Transcarpathian craftsmen participated at the 13th Szenkeparti Fair

The 13th Szenkeparti Fair was held at Sunday in Penyige, which was visited by a number of participants and visitors, as well 15 Transcarpathian craftsmen within the project titled „Promotion of folk-arts and handicrafts in Carpathian Euroregion HUSKROUA/1101/163”.

The main objective of the project implemented by the Ukrainian-Hungarian Regional Development Centre and the Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County Village Tourism Association is to return to the values of local folk-arts,  and to increase their role as an important part of life in the region.The Transcarpathian and local craftsmen provided pleasant recreational opportunities for both children and adults. The visitors could try out barrel making, beading, weaving and crocheting during the crafts workshops. One of the feature of the fair that only craftsmen could sell their products in tents made of wood and bulrush. The main stage was built of straw bales. In addition, there was a wine fountain and several well-known participants.

At the fair opening the following persons welcomed the visitors and participants: Gyula Juhász, the mayor of Penyige village, Oszkár Seszták, the head of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Council, Dr. Attila Tilki, the Member of Parliament, Dr. Árpád Hanusz, the head of the Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County Village Tourism Association, Dr. József Tarpai, the director of the Ukrainian-Hungarian Regional Development Centre, who gave a flower stand made by Árpád László Transcarpathian cooper to the mayoral office as a present.

The Transcarpathian guest visited the local Lekvárium, where they tasted plum jam and such specialities as courgette jam. The Transcarpathian craftsmen accommodated in rural guesthouses could taste meals and drinks typical of Szatmár, as well they could experience the Szatmár hospitality.

The participation of the Transcarpathian craftsmen was supported by the European Union Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013.
